A live, late night talkshow with realtime interaction, on-screen graphics and presenter feedback
Knevel & Van den Brink is a daily, late night talkshow that in the Summer 2012 season introduced PlayToTV to the genre in The Netherlands. It’s broadcasted by Evangelische Omroep, part of the Dutch public broadcaster. Presenters Knevel and Van den Brink frequently referred to the second screen and saw a growing, loyal following of users for the live.eo.nl web-bases second screen. A total of 15 episodes for the second screen were produced.
The biggest second screen event for Knevel en Van den Brink was the debate between 6 political leaders of the largest parties in The Netherlands on August 29th. The debate saw 44.000 people participate on their phone, laptop and tablet. Second screen users got to pick the winner of the debate, Diederik Samson, whose remarkable turnaround in the campaign was partly attributed to his successful performance as judged by the second screen users. A highly innovative feature of the second screen was to award the final word in 1 on 1 clashes between the participants, as can be seen from the video fragment below. This unique use – and power – of the second screen has had a measurable impact on the polls and was considered a big success by customer EO.
